This was taken at a photo-call in the garden at the back of the Ritz Hotel. I can’t remember why but half of Fleet Street’s photographers were there. One of them said ‘alright lads put your telephotos on’ and they all did and stood well back. I prefer to get in close and I didn’t move with the others. Almost instantly some old timer walked up behind me and gave me a cuff around the head to teach me the joys of conformity, I suppose. Soon after Debbie Harry went into retirement for a few years to look after her sick partner Chris Stein but they are both now still performing as Blondie.
