I was commissioned by NME to shoot a New Jersey trio who had just signed their first record deal. The Fugees were new to dealing with the media and were very reserved. It was pouring with rain so I shot them perched on an armchair in a tiny office. I prefer to improvise with photo sessions rather than having anything planned before the shoot and normally use available light. As the room was so dark I had my Hasselblad balanced in one hand and a flash-gun held underneath to give the shot a bit more dramatic lighting. I had to get prints over to England for the next day and as this was before digital cameras and sending j-pegs I took 24 shots and dashed off to the darkroom to get printing.
