Black Stalin RIP
One of the giants of calypso Black Stalin has just passed away. I took these photos of him in Port Of Spain, Trinidad in August 1989. Here's The Guardian's obituary featuring two more of my photographs:

Calliste, better known as veteran Calypso artist Black Stalin.
He was 81.
Black Stalin was born on 24 September 1941 in Trinidad and Tobago.
He was best known for his powerful lyrics against European colonial oppression.
His musical talent saw him win the renowned Calypso Monarch competition on five occasions.
He was also crowned the Calypso King of the World in 1999.
Black Stalin also received the Hummingbird Medal (Silver) at the National Awards ceremony in 1987.
In 2008, he was honoured with an honorary doctorate from the University of the West Indies, St Augustine, for dedication and contribution to calypso music and culture in Trinidad and Tobago.
