Amiri Baraka formerly known as Leroi Jones R.I.P.
The American poet and author has just died in his home town of Newark, New Jersey. This photo was taken at Brixton Town Hall where he was speaking at a memorial show after the murder of the Jamaican dub-poet Michael Smith. His performance was an amazingly passionate display and had the whole audience on their feet. He was always provocative and won't be forgotten. This obituary appears in the New York Times:
