Eddie Tenpole
Holloway Road rehearsal rooms, London, UK
(1979)
I took this photo at a rehearsal studio where Eddie was finishing his album with his band Tenpole Tudor before going on tour. The shows were crazy events with Eddie jumping on and off stage with an arm or leg semi-clad in medieval armour. The rest of the band dressed in a similar way although less flamboyantly. This style of dress was not so much the result of an eccentric taste for chain mail but rather of Eddie’s claim of direct descent from Henry VIII. In this photo I think he looks even more akin to Buster Keaton with that vulnerable look of a hapless man – and an identical hat.
